McCutcheon's Rental Recommendations

There's Something About Mary
The first 20 minutes of this film are the funniest ever seen on screen. Ben Stiller is excellent. I was eating my Dots candy and I spit it three rows in front of me. I laughed so hard I cried. And that is a great feeling. Plus Brett Favre is in there at the end to give us all a big laugh.

A Price Above Rubies
Rene Zellwegger not only has the coolest last name but she is so damn talented as well. In this movie, she plays a woman fighting for freedom against the strict Hasidic Jewish lifestyle she has married into. (see also-The Whole Wide World and Love & a .45)

Lawn Dogs
The sexiest subtle movie of the year. Mischa Barton is introduced here as Devon, a ten year old Lolita who befriends a hillbilly lawn mower man. Not since Natalie Portman in The Professional has a young actress given such a performance. The rest of the film is all naked high dives, cunnilingus salads, a dead dog and why "people don’t just give you turtles for no reason". To understand what I mean, see this film!

The Spanish Prisoner
David Manet can be so damn conversationally annoying. He can also be genius. This is another play where everything is not as it seems. Enjoy the deceit. Also best role Steve Martin has had since The Jerk.

Happiness
Better cum shots than There’s Something About Mary. This is like a late night Soap Opera for the damned. Love American-style in reality.

Your Friends & Neighbors
Neil LaBute's second film looks at human relationships in a way that is a little too close to most people’s comfort zones. It’s a wonder any of us fall in love, make love or even leave the house for that matter. Ben Stiller is great as an actor who is sort of a Hamlet between the sheets. Nastassja Kinski is the most beautiful woman on the planet- so her acting in any role is never a bad thing.

Wild Things
The sexiest over-the-top movie of the year. Dirty cops, dirty teachers, dirty high school girls flaunting their fine stuff. And that is just the beginning. Soon we are into lies, murder and champagne fueled sex orgies in rundown motel rooms. And it must be a good year for old SNL alumni because like Steve Martin, Bill Murray is back in form. He gets my vote for best supporting actor as an ambulance chasing lawyer going for the big time.

Zero Effect
A who-dunnit. A modern day Sherlock Holmes tale of mystery. Bill Pullman as Sherlock, Ben Stiller (again) as Watson and my friend Hugh Ross as the lawyer trying to help out. This was put together by the son of Lawrence Kasdan (if you don’t know who he is then you don’t know film) and his dad should be very proud.

Little Voice
Great actors giving great performances from the help of a great script. Pure entertainment from a fine British cast that includes Ewen Mc Gregor.

Home fries
Twisted fast-food thriller with Drew Barrymore as pregnant as Margie from Fargo. Best line, "You don’t want to love me, you just want to poke my baby’s head in with your dick." Or something like that.

Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels
The best British film since Trainspotting. Yes, better than Twin Town. Has Vinnie Jones as a hard man. What do you expect?

Mr. Jealousy
Great romantic comedy set in NYC. Such a cheap budget that they didn’t even bother taking out the boom mike. The best soundtrack of the year by Luna and French pop artists.

Buffalo 66
Gritty film realism from Calvin Klein model Vincent Gallo. A love story for losers.
